Our berries are ‘grown to taste better’. We work with nature to keep the pests away and produce a range of healthy berries. We grow premium quality varieties with superb flavour, shelf life and size. We are currently growing strawberries and raspberries and will soon have blackberries joining our berry range.
We have built state-of-the-art polytunnels that create an ideal micro-climate and provide our berries with protection from the weather which allows us to extend our growing season. Our pollinators and friendly insects love the atmosphere, where they are also shielded from the elements.
Our berries are supplied with just the right amount of water and nutrients to get the best quality berries. Strawberries are grown on tables which allows pickers to easily see and access the berries and also helps to control pests which often are often a problem for berries grown on the ground.
We also use an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) System to focus on our berry health. We closely monitor the type of insects and health of our berries, ensuring they get just what they need. If we find any unwanted bugs that could give us grief, we release our beneficial insects to give us a natural helping hand.
At Kaipaki Berries we understand how important it is to take steps towards protecting the environment and our resources for future generations.
Our aim is to use best practice growing to ensure our operation is capable of producing the best berries while maintaining a healthy respect for the natural environment.
Our commitment includes:
• Growing hydroponically which is better for the environment, greatly reducing water and the use of added nutrients.
• Driving a recycling programme.
• Diverting all berry waste away from landfill to stockfeed.
• Using 100% recycled plastic (rPET) for packaging.
NZGAP and Social Practice add-on
At Kaipaki Berries we have the NZGAP certification for the best farming practices, which includes food safety, health and safety, and environmental management.
We are also obtaining the NZGAP Social Practice add-on. This certification confirms growers meet the requirements for employment, wages, worker welfare and immigration.
Let me tell you about the Monteray strawberries we grow. They’re an early season berry that are renowned for their large size and sweeter flavour.
Strawberries are a good source of Vitamin C, which supports healthy immunity. One 175g serving of strawberries provides you with 200% of your daily Vitamin C requirement.
Our Kwanza variety is selected for it’s larger size and vibrant colour. These sweeter tasting raspberries have a longer shelf life too.
